Capture And Share Your Sounds

Posted by MUSIC Gears Wednesday, December 8, 2010 0 comments

The web today makes it really easy for us to share our experiences with the people we care about. Status messages on Twitter and Facebook, videos on YouTube or photos on Flickr, capturing a moment and sharing it with our friends, fans or family gives that moment a special meaning.
Imagine you’re in the subway and all of a sudden a group of strangers starts singing -  what’s known as a flashmob is happening right in front of your eyes (and ears). Or imagine you’re on tour with your band and have a super-funny story or acoustic demo of a brand-new song to share with your followers and fans. How awesome would it be if you could capture this moment on the move and instantly share your recording with your people? We think that would be pretty awesome…
Today, we’re excited about the release of the recording feature. The Record button will make it easy for you to capture all kinds of sounds right on SoundCloud & with the iPhone app and share them from anywhere to everywhere on the web: your website, social network profiles or simply between friends & family.

Behringer CS400 Stomp Box Pedal to Boss CS

Posted by MUSIC Gears Tuesday, December 7, 2010 0 comments

"Very comparable to Boss's CS line of pedals. Allows you to really dial in the type of compression you're looking for. Unit is made of plastic so it might not stand up to brutal use. The sustain function works fairly well though I wish its max sustain level would hold the signal longer. For the price and its functionality this is a decent pedal to add to your setup."
BOTTOM LINE Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Behringer B412DSP Review

Posted by MUSIC Gears 0 comments

It doesn't matter if you need a PA system for a heavy metal band, a church or a one-man show. You want a speaker that sounds great at whisper level but can also level the house if needed.

The state-of-the-art Behringer B412DSP PA speaker system boasts 600 Watts that will simply blow you away. It holds a bi-amped 600-Watt engine which drives a high-efficiency 12-inch woofer for brutal punch and a 1.75-inch titanium driver for high-end resolution. The built-in mixer allows you to run the show without any extra equipment.

But this animal also has a brain: a powerful 24-bit DSP controls the crossover, a dual compressor/limiter, phase and time corrections and even a noise gate. The intelligent dynamic EQ makes sure your system sounds perfect at any sound level.

Best of all, it's so lightweight you don't have to be a gorilla to carry it.

Behringer DDM-4000 Review

Posted by MUSIC Gears 0 comments

Hey DJs and Fans alike,

I am a beginner DJ but can distinguish decent products from not so great products in the DJ business which leads me to my review.

I recently got my hands on the new Behringer DDM-4000 and am blown away by the quality of this mixer. I know that Behringer doesn't have the best rep for DJ equipment but that assumption was blown away and earned cool points with this Mixer.

The DDM-4000 mixer houses some of the most detailed settings available. Everything from selecting which input channel to add effects to recording a sample and replaying them in your remixes. All out of one mixer. This mixer does have a little bit of a set back.

With tons of features, it also has a pretty high learning curve. This mixer (although great) will require you to truly take time to get use to. However, once you get through the initial learning curve, the remixes will sound awesome. Kudos to Behringer with this engineering marvel.

Behringer DJX750 is professional 5-Channel DJ Mixer with Advanced Digital Effects and BPM Counter. It merges intuitive operation with built-in digital effects processing for clean, transparent sound that will set your dance floor on fire! Because your voice is your instrument, the DJX750 features a dedicated mic channel with all the tools to make your sound supremely distinctive. Vocal fine-tuning is handled by the onboard 3-band EQ, which provides up to 15 dB of boost or cut at LOW (80 Hz), MID (2.5 k), and HIGH (12 kHz) frequency centers--creating an extremely broad tonal palette.

Not Just a DJX700 Dressed in Black!
DJs the world over love the DJX700, so when Behringer began design on the DJX750, they had to do something very special. They started by revving up the FX processor and putting advanced parameter control right at your fingertips.

No longer are you confined to rigid presets that limit your creativity. With the DJX750, you can change FX parameters on-the-fly, pushing your performance to the next level. In no time you'll be creating powerful sets with your own custom-tailored effects sounds, all of which can be controlled in real-time. Some parameters at your disposal include Bit Crusher depth, manual filter sweeps, Panning (LFO Rate), delay/echo time and much more. You can even set delay and echo timing relative to the internal BPM counter for extremely musical results. It is kinda like a DJX700--but one on steroids!

Really good digital effects add the finishing touch to a solid performance, and ours are really good! With 33 outstanding effects to choose from, including an assortment of Phase Shifters, Flangers, Reverbs, Delays and more, your audience won't know what hit them. There are even Auto Filter and Voice Changer effects that will take your show to a whole new level.

Channels Galore
Because your voice is your instrument, the DJX750 features a dedicated mic channel with all the tools to make your sound supremely distinctive. Vocal fine-tuning is handled by the onboard 3-band EQ, which provides up to 15 dB of boost or cut at LOW (80 Hz), MID (2.5 k), and HIGH (12 kHz) frequency centers--creating an extremely broad tonal palette. The DJX750's stereo channels' EQ utilize the same frequency centers with a boost of up to 12 dB and a cut of as much as -32dB. These channels are equipped to handle every conceivable input source--from line level, phono, CD and tape decks to mp3 and minidisk players, Behringer's got you covered.

Auto Ducking
DJX750's talkover function automatically detects your voice and brings down the volume of the music track (referred to as "ducking"), so your voice is always out front--you can even set this level to your own personal preference. Auto BPM Counter Sync'ing up tracks is an art unto itself--that's why Behringer gave the DJX750 dual Auto BPM Counters. This cool feature helps take the guess work out of making a smooth transition from one track to the next. Each BPM counter's digital display shows which channel it is tracking and the tempo of the music in beats per minute. Optionally, you can push the Beat Assist button in time with the song to manually enter the tempo. You get a read out of the tempo difference between the tracks, as well as a visual confirmation when they are in sync. These tools will help you seamlessly align two tracks--without having to rely solely on your ears.

Crossfader & Channel Faders
All of our super-smooth faders are of the high-grade 45-mm ULTRAGLIDE variety. Faders are, after all, the heart and soul of every mixer, and with their 500,000 cycle life expectancy (that's 275 fades per night, per fader for five years without a break!), they outperform standard faders more than twenty-to-one. And since the crossfader uses VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) technology, there is virtually no audio noise. For those of you who prefer customized crossfading, the DJX750 also includes our CF Curve control, which lets you set the crossfader's control characteristic just the way you like it. It is, after all, your show!

XPQ 3D
Making music larger than life is what it's all about and the DJX750 comes through on this in a big way. XPQ 3D Surround widens the stereo field, giving it immense depth and a stereo image that is full of life, with amazingly transparent sound. You determine the intensity of this stunning effect with a simple twist of the Surround control--from barely noticeable to supremely spectacular.

Sound Quality
None of the above-mentioned features would amount to much if the DJX750 didn't sound truly remarkable. That's why Behringer equips each one with our tried-and-true ULN (Ultra Low-Noise) preamps: what comes in comes out, with nothing added. So you get maximum headroom, extremely low noise and ultra-transparent sound. Compare it to the competition for sound quality, features and value and you'll see why more and more DJs "own the night" with their Behringer DJX750.

Monitor Multi-Tasking
You can't put on much of a show if you can't hear what you're mixing! That's why Behringer didn't cut any corners on DJX750's monitor section. When the monitor Mode switch is in the "Split" position, you hear the PFL (Pre-Fader Level) output on the left side of your phones, and the Master signal on your right. If you prefer working in "Stereo" mode, you can turn the MIX control fully counterclockwise to hear the channel PFL signal in both sides of your headphones, fully clockwise for the Master output, or you can "mix" both signals by adjusting the control to anywhere in-between. You can listen to one or multiple sources, and LEDs light up to indicate what you're listening to.

Features:

  • Professional 5-channel ultra-low noise DJ mixer with stylish, black design
  • State-of-the-art 24-bit digital effects with advanced parameter control
  • Intelligent dual auto-BPM counter with time and beat sync display
  • Super-smooth ULTRAGLIDE faders with up to 500,000 life cycles
  • Awesome adjustable XPQ stereo surround effect

The BUGERA V22 was listed as the #2 cool gift idea in Time Out Chicago’s “10 Cool Gift Ideas for Cool Guys” blog post.
“The V22 looks like a more expensive boutique amp, with its arrow-shaped controls and creamy nameplate panel area. I’ve toyed with one for a bit and found that it has the British-type tone that lover’s of the ’60′s Who/Stones/Kinks will dig, lots of colorful high-end, but also a nice midrange body. It’s easy to dial in classic rock and blues sounds via a three-tube pre-amp stage and two tube power stages a mid boost and overdrive.” — Time Out Chicago, December 2010.

“With all its input options and with all that help it offers for room and system adjustments, the TRUTH B1030A should make itself useful in just about any circumstance.” Recording Magazine, December 2010.

Get to Know… Screamin’ Jay Hawkins!

Posted by MUSIC Gears Thursday, November 25, 2010 0 comments

Before Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, Marilyn Manson, etc., it was Screamin’ Jay who laid the foundation for Rock ‘n’ Roll’s theatre of the macabre as early as 1954. He also was an early example of the sort of alpha hedonism we might now associate with Motley Crue. While it would be an overstatement to credit him with the birth of Metal, his relationships with dark theatrical presentation, moral panic, powerhouse vocal styles, and women set the stage for myriad shock rockers to follow. Song titles include “Alligator Wine,” “Frenzy,” “Feast of the Mau Mau,” “Constipation Blues,” and one other song I’ll tell you about in a sec.
Jay’s pre-music career backstory is arguably as weird as his musical repertoire. Hawkins was born on a bus (!) passing through Cleveland, Ohio, and was left at an orphanage. He was later adopted by a Blackfoot Indian family. In his youth he studied to be an opera singer, classical pianist, and guitar player. During his U.S. Air Force days in World War II, he also became a skilled boxer, taking the Alaskan middleweight title in 1949.
While you may not have heard of Screamin’ Jay before this writing, you are very likely familiar with a piece of his work, assuming you’ve ever been in audible proximity to a radio. “I Put A Spell on You,” his monster 1956 hit, has been covered innumerable times by an incredibly diverse array of artists: Marilyn Manson, Queen Latifah, The Animals, Jeff Beck, Sonique, and Nina Simone make the list, with Creedence Clearwater Revival’s version being the best known.

Our EURORACK PRO RX1202FX Goes On Tour With The Blackeyed Peas!

Posted by MUSIC Gears Monday, November 22, 2010 0 comments

Black Eyed Peas musical director Printz Board recently gave Keyboard Magazine a rundown on “how he makes the Peas pop.” In the July 2010 issue, he was nice enough to give BEHRINGER some kind words about how one of our products made its way into their rig!
“Eric Harris put in this BEHRINGER EURORACK mixer, and it’s done wonders.” said Board. He continued, ”I can pan my different keyboards and change the EQ per instrument.”
In addition to being the Black Eyed Peas musical director, Board plays keyboards, trumpet, bass, and also serves as a songwriter and producer. See the full article here:
The EURORACK R1202FX is a rack mountable mixer that comes loaded with a 24-bit multi-FX processor and 8 built-in studio-grade IMP “invisible” mic preamps. The RX1202FX is ideal for small bands, churches, and business conferences with microphones and A/V equipment. It is also great for sub-mixing keyboards, drums, samplers, and for monitoring multi-rack recording projects.

So, the big music news today: after decades of legal wrangling, Apple Computer and Apple Records have agreed to kiss and make up, or at least hold hands. The Beatles’ entire discography (with bonus documentaries and a recording of their first live U.S. concert) is at last available via iTunes. This also comes after an exhaustive 4-year digital remastering process.
For even casual Beatles fans, this is a boon. But what about the holdouts? And why are they being stubborn? There are a lot of heavyweights who are still unavailable via iTunes, including: AC/DC, Garth Brooks, Tool, and Kid Rock.
The top-cited rationale for iTunes abstinence is the “album issue.” Many artists strongly prefer to release songs as a set—an album, in the traditional, vinyl-derived sense of the term. Many argue that an album is greater than the sum of its parts, and the songs therein are to be sold strictly as a package, as would be the case on vinyl or CD.
Thing is, iTunes largely sells single tracks. Many see this as a disservice to the album format. I get it, but why all the hubbub? Folks talk about missing the “nice break” between sides 1 and 2 of an LP or cassette, for example, or large-format liner notes as contained with LPs, and want these parts of the music-loving experience preserved.
Slow down, old-schooler—let’s not overlook the fact that there was a time in recorded music when albums didn’t exist. 45 rpm vinyl singles (and 78′s before that) were the manner in which most folks consumed music, as it was really the only option. While digital music may be the wave of the future now, it carries undeniable echoes of the music market of a bygone era.
So, are the holdouts doing the right thing? Is the album format doomed? And if so, is that necessarily a bad thing? Music has always been married to technology, and its history is littered with technological casualties. Was anyone really sad to see the end of the Minidisk? The Wax Cylinder? Does anyone digitally add the “Ka-CHUNK” noise from 8-track tape decks to their digital releases out of some sense of puritan allegiance to a defunct format?
While artists are indeed entitled to put out whatever art they want by whatever medium they desire, at some point it may be wise to consider the wants of their purchasing audience. Seems to me the audience has spoken pretty clearly. The single is back…
…but is the album dead as a result? Or merely on life support?
